Commissioner

NYC Department of Small Business Services

Panel Discussions

Kenny Minaya is the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS). Throughout his career in public service, Kenny has worked tirelessly to advocate for the rights of New Yorkers in every borough. He served in key roles at the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, first as Chief of Staff and then as First Deputy Commissioner, where he oversaw agency operations, and worked to streamline the regulatory and licensing burdens faced by small business owners.

In addition to his work in government, Kenny has also worked for the non-profit organizations Catholic Migration Services and Make the Road New York, providing free legal services to indigent immigrant New Yorkers and advocating for the needs of those most at risk of displacement in Western Queens and Bushwick, Brooklyn. Kenny was born and raised in New York City. For more than 40 years, his parents — immigrants from the Dominican Republic — have owned a small business in New York City. He attended New York City public schools, earned a Bachelor of Arts from the City College of New York, and a Juris Doctor from the CUNY School of Law.
