Haris Khan is Chief of Staff at the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS), where he has advised Commissioners across two administrations and oversees external affairs and industry-focused teams supporting the City’s commercial corridors, small businesses, and jobseekers.
As the agency’s liaison to City Hall, he has helped develop Mayor Mamdani’s first-year small business and workforce announcements, including the overhaul of the NYC Future Fund, the City’s first loan program designed for seasonal businesses. He also worked with Transition Co-Chair Lina Khan to draft Executive Order 11, which resulted in this summer's “OPEN for Small Business” reform package to cut red tape.
Haris began his career as a New York City Urban Fellow under now-Deputy Mayor for Operations Julia Kerson in the de Blasio administration. He earned his master's in management science as a Schwarzman Scholar at Tsinghua University and his bachelor’s from the City College of New York.
